This week we are beginning our relief printmaking project while continuing to study figure/ground and multiplicity in gestalt theory.
If you are not yet familiar with relief printing methods, look here for some examples.
Your assignment is to carve your linoleum or EZ carve block and have it print ready by the next class.
Your designs need to incorporate clever and strong figure/ground relationships and also need to be only BLACK and WHITE.
Remember, in relief printmaking you will think in reverse. Your design will be carved backwards unless it is perfectly symmetrical. Be careful and pay attention to text!
Examples of some very dynamic logos can be found here.
